This session is aimed at developers who are interested in developing for Windows Mobile with little or no prior experience in this area. It will explain all of the essentials, including what Windows Mobile is, the various editions, devices types, development tools and libraries, the SDKs, options for working with data and communications, the device emulators and more. You will be surprised just how easy it is to start developing for Windows Mobile!
Windows Mobile 6 has generated strong interest from both corporate organisations and end-users, but what does it offer developers? This session will examine how the development platforms for Windows Mobile 6 simplify application development and deployment and will show how to develop a single application that runs on the myriad of device types and form factors now on the market. Topics will include ROM enhancements and new emulators (including the FakeGPS, FakeServer and Cellular Emulator) that allow developers to simulate many real-world scenarios that were previously difficult to create and test. The session will conclude with a brief look at what’s new for device developers in Visual Studio 2008.

Recent projects include the creation of e-learning content for the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 Developer Resource Kits and client development using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF).
Please note: The demonstration source code requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition or better (not Express), the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 SDKs for both Standard and Professional and either Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (Windows Vista). Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 is recommended.
